A DRUMRY woman's former partner threatened to slash her before he struck at the walls in the living room of her house with two knives.

Michael Forbes, 23, who appeared from custody at Dumbarton Sheriff Court turned up at the flat in Onslow Drive on Hogmanay and shouted, swore and made violent threats during the incident.

Procurator fiscal depute Sarah Healing told the court that Forbes and the woman had been in a relationship for around five years and have two young children together.

Outlining the circumstances of the incident she said: "It was 2am on December 31 and the complainer and a friend were sitting in the living room when he attended unexpectedly. He was under the influence of alcohol having been at a family event nearby. A short time after his arrival he began shouting and swearing calling her names such as a 'fat cow' and causing a disturbance within the property. He then went in to the kitchen and picked up two knives before returning to the living room and approaching [his former partner] who was sitting on a chair and brandished the knives, one was very close to her head."

The court heard that Forbes told his former partner he was going to "scar and slash" her before the woman pushed him away with her feet. He then turned his attention to the property and began stabbing and slashing at the walls. He injured his hand whilst doing this before throwing the knives on the floor and wrapping something round his hand to stop the blood.

The disturbance was overheard by neighbours who knew there were children in the house and they decided to contact the police. When the cops arrived Forbes fled the scene by jumping out of a window. They found the woman within the house distressed and crying.

At 10am that day he was traced at another address in Clydebank where he was found hiding in a cupboard in a bedroom. He was taken to Clydebank Police Office where a doctor attended to his injured hand.

Sheriff Simon Pender adjourned the matter until May 9 and called for a criminal justice social work report and a risk assessment to be carried out. Forbes was remanded in custody until then.
