SENTENCE has been deferred on a serial shoplifter.

Robert Mullen, who lives in the Safe As Houses supported accommodation in Jean Armour Drive, Clydebank, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court for a string of shoplifting offences and the theft of a mobile phone and charger on October 16.

Mullen stole alcohol from the Co-op store in Sinclair Street, Helensburgh on April 15. Four days later, he stole a parasol from Asda in Dumbarton, and on April 28 he returned and stole another parasol and a trampoline from the same store.

On the same day he also stolepinched toiletries from the Boots store in Alexandria’s Main Street. His spree continued the following day at the Co-op in Dumbarton’s High Street when he stole a quantity of confectionery.

Then on July 7, he entered Glen’s Garage in Main Street, Alexandria and fled with a quantity of food.

In relation to the mobile phone and charger theft, Mullen’s solicitor Bert Thomson, told the court: “His girlfriend had sold his phone and he essentially took this hostage in return.”

Sheriff Craig Turnbull deferred sentence on Mullen until March 31 next year, warned him to be of good behaviour, and called for a social inquiry report.
