Yoker Athletic must now get at least a point from their last game against Petershill to stay in the Super First Division after their 4-1 defeat to Girvan on Saturday.

Jack McDowall fired in a hat-trick to help seal the victory for the visitors, who became league champions.

McDowall put the Ayrshire side in front after two minutes, powering home Craig Reid’s throw-in.

Ryan Hynes pulled one back for Athletic, the ball was flicked on and the striker smashed the ball home after 33 minutes.

But McDowall struck again on the stroke of half-time, picking up Patterson’s pass and firing in to restore Peter Leonard’s side’s lead.

Yoker had a short spell of possession and territory after the break, David Crerand’s free header going just over the bar.

But eventually the champions began to turn the screw.

McDowall completed his hat-trick, the midfielder latching on to a long through ball before firing past Marc Wilson to give Girvan a two-goal cushion on 73 minutes.

And late substitute Andy Stevenson made sure of the result nine minutes later, forcing the ball home from inside the box.

Yoker next play Benburb away in the semi-final of the Central League Cup on Saturday, kick-off is at 2pm.
