CLYDEBANK Rugby Club hosted their annual mini rugby tournament at Whitecrook Sports Centre last Sunday — the Clydebank Titans taking on eight teams from the Glasgow area at three diferent age groups.

In the P1-3 section of the tournament Cumnock A and B, Hilllhead/Jordanhill and Cumbernauld gave a strong account of themselves but it was to be an all Cumnock affair in the final with the A team coming out on top to lift the trophy.

In the P4/5 section of the tournament Hillhead/Jordanhill A and B, Cumnock and Paisley all went through to the semi-finals. Cumnock played well to beat a spirited Hillhead/Jordanhill B team, while their teammates in the A team progressed into the final against Cumnock by beating Paisley.

The final saw some of the best running rugby of the day, but again it was Cumnock who took home another trophy highlighting the strong youth setup they have at the club.

In the P6/7 side of the festival, Cumbernauld , Bishopton, Hillhead/Jordanhill and Paisley made up the teams in the semi-finals. Cumbernauld beat Bishopton to meet Hillhead/Jordanhill in the final and it was Hillhead/Jordanhill who lifted the trophy.

Unfortunately no Clydebank Titans teams made the semi-finals which they will be bitterly disappointed about, but they will have learned a great deal from the experience and will come back stronger for it next year.

The players were in for a surprise treat on the day when Glasgow Warriors players Jonny Gray and Will Bordill came down to support in their club attire, while Scotland internationalist Mark Bennett was spotted incognito supporting his Cumnock players, a club where he is involved with coaching.

The club would like to thank the many volunteers that gave up their weekend to help with the running and organising of the festival as without their continued support the event could not have taken place. The club would also like to thank the residents of Dean Street for their co-operation in what is a very important day for the club and a large community event that continues to grow.
