ON Wednesday June 24 Gary Murphy took the team to Helensburgh for the final gents McIntyre match.

The team was sitting top of the league at the beginning of the night, however by the end of the evening the positions had changed when a strong Helensburgh team won the match and the league for the first time in 47 years.

The council and the members would like to thank Gary Murphy and his squad for a tremendous performance in the McIntyre league this season to finish runners up.

The senior McIntyre team travelled to Windyhill to play their league match and came back with a creditable 2-2 draw.

On Sunday our Thomson McCrone team played their final match at home against Dullatur.

The result was a draw 2 ½ each. The Five to Eight team qualified for the semi-finals as winners of our league section. It has drawn Hayston in the next round.

On Saturday the gents section played the Summer meeting. The lowest gross score of the day was club champion who scored a 69 for a 68.

This was one of four players who scored a nett 68 with David Gallagher Junior, Ian Abbot also scoring 68, the winner with a better inward half however was Fraser Tivendale.

The second class was also close with Derek Thorburn and Jim Doherty scoring a 67 with Jim picking up the medal with a better inward half. In third place was the former vice president of the club Jimmy Higgins who retired from the post on Thursday night. Jim scored a nett 68.

Third class medal was won in convincing style by Steven Brady with a brilliant nett score of 62 who beat James Austin who scored a very good 65.

The ladies played on Tuesday in the secretary"s prize competition. There were 17 entries in this competition and it was won by Rayanne Mungall who scored a better inward half from Janice Robertson, both players scored a 74.

Meanwhile the club council said farewell to three of the longest serving members as David Galt, Jimmy Higgins and Bill Mungall stepped down.

They had over 75 years of service to the members of Clydebank and District golf club between the three of them.

David"s last role was club president a position that he held on more than one occasion. David was also club captain during 1989 .Jimmy has been on council for over 25 years and like David he has covered many offices within council, he served as captain in 1993.

Bill Mungall was captain in 1985 and most recently he held the office of admin convener a job that Bill relished and turned into his own.

These three guys will now be able to step back and concentrate on the reason they joined the golf club, play golf.

Jimmy Higgins has already stepped up to the plate with a score of 68 in the first competition after stepping down.

The council and members of Clydebank and District Golf Club owe a great deal to David, Jimmy and Bill for the work and commitment they have shown to the club and hope that they enjoy their new found spare time and their golf.

The juniors began their school holidays and began their travels with a visit to Prestwick St Cuthbert.

Kieran McHale won his class with a score of 75. On Thursday a good number of our juniors took part in the Dumbartonshire County Stroke Play Championship.

David Gallagher and John Henry finished second and third after the two rounds to qualify for the match play championship that will be played this week.

On Friday our junior Marley team won their third match in a row with a victory against Hilton Park.

On Sunday the junior McIntyre team travelled to the Vale of Leven for their last league match of the season and they won 6-0 which is a tremendous result.

After they had completed the match the boys made their way back to Hardgate to take part in the July club championship.

The winner of the first class was Jonathon Pollock who scored a brilliant nett 58 and second class winner was won by Callum Love with a nett 66.

Two of our juniors finished in fourth and fifth place at the county skills tests. Well done to Chris MacLean and Kieran McHale.

On Saturday the gents section took part in the July medal. The scoring was very good with Joe Baird having the score of the day with a nett 60 to win the second class. The first class was a much closer Allan Morrison scoring the lowest gross score of the day with a 67 less his handicap he scored a 63.

John Wright however also scored a nett 63 with a better inward half to win the first class medal.

In third class JA Wernham beat Malcolm Menzies to the medal with a better inward nine as both players scored with a score of 65.

On Thursday our senior section beat Milngavie in the McIntyre league. This result was made more special by the fact Milngavie are currently top of the table.

Our Ladies section had a busy week with several competitions. On Wednesday July 1 the Ladies Invitational was won by Marion Bendoris and Lynn McColl for the third time in a row. They scored a nett score 67, in second place were Cathy Skinner and Sheila Hamilton with a 69.5.

The following day Cathy Skinner won the silver medal with a score of 73 and the bronze medal was won by Janice Robertson with a score of 71 On Sunday the ladies played in the Chris Boyd Trophy with Lynn Mitchell winning with a score of 68 with Rena Stewart runner-up with a score of 71.
