ANTONINE lifted the League Cup after winning 2-1 against Drumchapel Utd in the final at the home of Vale of Leven, Millburn Park.

At the weekend Drumchapel United failed to beat Lochgilphead — which gave Antonine the league title.

Antonine dominated the opening stages of the cup final, in the fifth minute a Danny Hamilton cross found Fraser James at the back post but the Drum keeper comfortably saved his shot.

On the 18th minute Scott Hutton found Owen Gallacher 25 yards from goal and his disguised pass reached Adam Boyle who showed great strength to hold of the defender and half volley home his 30th goal of the season to open the scoring, This kicked Drum into life and they started to come back into the game. Dom Cairney came on for Antonine to replace influential midfielder Hamilton who had a sickness bug.

Cairney was causing problems with his pace attacking down the right hand side but it was Drum who struck next. In the 55th minute Dougan beat a defender and from 12 yards made no mistake to equalise.

In the 60th minute Mark Sweeny replaced the injured Maxwell and his first touch was to send a free kick onto Owen Gallacher’s head and from 10 yards he made no mistake.

It was end-to-end for the last 20 minutes of the game. Sweeny’s 20-yard effort forced a great save from the keeper.

That was the last of the action as Antonine held on to win the League Cup.

Antonine will be presented with the league trophy after a friendly this Saturday at Clydebank High with a 2pm kick-off.
