Clydebank manager Kieran McAnespie is aiming to have a squad of 17 as he prepares the Bankies for life back in the Super League Premier Division.

The Holm Park side have eight players so far, and look set to add striker Ciaran Lafferty to their squad this week.

The manager admitted progress had been slow so far on the transfer front he expected more signings to be made this week.

He said: “It’s slow but I’m having the right conversations. I’m quite pernickety and I want to bring in the right quality. But I’m not being held to ransom and not jeopardising the changing room.

“I’ve got boys coming in for trials, and I know what I want. I’ve got three or four players who are getting back to me this week to give me an answer, and had conversations with them.

“I want 17 signed, I’ll make it 18 and Scott Morrison the goalkeeping coach will be 19. He’ll be the back-up goalie, he’s still an unbelievable goalkeeper and Josh will learn a lot from him.”

The Bankies return to pre-season today, and their first pre-season fixture scheduled for Saturday, July 15 against Dumbarton, and McAnespie is in no rush to sign players.

He added: “The one thing I don’t want to be doing now is signing players for the sake of signing them. There are players there that won’t get anything.

“I’ve still got my budget and I’ll wait as they’ll still want a job, they’ll want to go and play somewhere and they will be high quality players that have played at a decent level. It’s just one of those things. I’m more than confident that we’ll do well, we’ll get in the right players.

“There’s a couple of boys from the PFA Showcasethat I liked and I thought would improve us. I’ve called some Senior clubs as well so we’re just waiting to see how that develops.

“Ultimately we probably have the smallest budget in the league, but that’s not to say that we won’t do well. I’m going in with a positive attitude and like I’ve said all the time if players want to come and enjoy their football they will do it for what we offer them.

Kieran McAnespie’s men take on St Mirren FC‘s U20 side at Glasgow Green on Wednesday 19, before travelling to Falkirk to face Camelon Juniors on Saturday 22. Clydebank will then host Hamilton Accies on Wednesday 26, before finally playing Gartcairn on Friday 28.
