Brendan Rodgers has insisted that the issue of having only one fit striker at the club in the wake of Leigh Griffiths’ departure from the squad is irrelevant when measured against Griffiths’ mental health.

Odsonne Edouard is the only available forward at the club until the January transfer window opens but Rodgers has shrugged off any concerns over potential personnel issues.

“It is one where it is the value of everything that is important to me,” said Rodgers. “I felt the best thing in the summer was to move Moussa [Dembele] on after what had happened and that was going to leave us short but our values are what they are.

“We do that. It is the same situation with Leigh. He is struggling and the best thing we feel is for him to get better. Yes, it leaves us short but that is irrelevant. This is our values.

“It is always the player and the person’s welfare. That is what is most important.

“Leigh is getting an assessment and once we get a comprehensive report on that then we will have an idea of the path we want him to go on.”

Meanwhile, Rodgers has insisted that Griffiths needs to step away from the pressures of social media as he looks to get back on track.

“He’s already been told that,” said the Celtic manager.

“You don’t need all that stuff. You leave yourself open.”
