Yoker Athletic boss Gordon Robertson has revealed he will take this season one game at a time as competitive football returned on Saturday.

The Whe Ho got their league campaign under way with a 2-0 win over Greenock at Holm Park with first-half goals from Aiden McNeill and Jamie Van Nuil securing the three points.

Robertson admits last seasons Conference format has made for a league he doesn’t know a whole lot about this season and has challenged his troops to be up for the fight.

Speaking to the Post, he said: “We want to do well but I genuinely don’t look beyond the next game. I know our first three matches but I couldn’t even tell you what’s happening beyond that. Most of the teams we’ll be playing against this season we haven’t seen and that’s not normal.

“In previous years, apart from teams who get promoted and relegated, you’re in the same division as 80 per cent of the teams that you were with the season before.

“Because of the conference system there’s only a couple of teams that we know from last season.

“It may take a while for things to level out and find out where we are at and as usual, after the first round of games then you will get a clear idea of what realistic objectives you can have and what you can achieve.

“We’ll find out in the coming weeks whether some of the guys are really up for it and we have to adapt accordingly.”

Yoker travel to Keppoch Park on Saturday to take on Glasgow Perthshire. Kick-off is at 2pm.
