Steven Gerrard insists any new signings in the door will depend on whether or not he can ship players out at Ibrox.

The Rangers boss has made no secret of his desire to sign a midfielder but any business outwith that potential midfield body will depend on outgoings at the club.

Daniel Johnson and Bongani Zungu are two who have been linked with Gers while the likes of Jordan Jones has been tipped for an exit with QPR rumoured to be keen on the former Kilmarnock winger. And even as Gerrard wants perhaps a couple more in the ranks, he won't spring for any new stars for the sake of it. And he'll need to balance the books.

"It depends on if anyone goes out the door in terms of numbers," he said. "Everyone knows, it’s no secret, that we’re looking for a midfielder to join us if we can. If we can’t find the person or make the signing happen that I want, I’m not going to just jump in and take anyone.

"It needs to be the right person to fill this role, so it’s a difficult question for me to answer right now but we are looking to add and strengthen but in terms of how many it depends on if there’s any action out the door as well."
