Clydebank Titans Rugby youngsters made the trip to Irvine at the weekend for their first fixture of the 2019/20 season.

Up against Irvine Rugby Club, Titans travelled with four teams - their P1-P3s, P4-P5s, P6-P7s and S1-S2s.

And with hard-fought and well-deserved wins for the P1-P3s and P6-P7s and close matches in the other two fixtures, it proved to be a good afternoon for everyone involved with the club.

Looking good to go in their brand new strips, the boys and girls set off early on Sunday morning full of excitement and raring to go.

The P1-P3s, the club’s youngest side, welcomed the arrival of Daniel Bredin and Jamie Dalziell for their first ever games and enjoyed a competitive, end-to-end match before eventually coming out on top with plenty of tries registered across the team.

Titans’ P4-P5s came up against a very strong and experienced Irvine side and narrowly lost out in their season opener. However, a number of great performances all round, with Jennifer Kemp in particular looking impressive, suggest it will be a bright season for the team.

Clydebank Post:

P6-P7 coach Jack Burgoyne described his side as being ‘very nervous’ before their match but they put their nerves to one side with a number of exceptional performances and tries from Josh Russell and debutante Malakia securing the win.

The S1-S2 kids, Titans’ most senior side, played out a very even game against their Irvine counterparts with the hosts eventually coming out on top after an exciting match. Titan tries from captain Blair Waddell, Harry Vine and a double from Kyle McGugan were unfortunately not enough for the Titans as Irvine ran out winners in the end.

Titans are away from home once again this weekend as they make the trip to Uddingston for their second outing of the season.
