Clydebank Rugby Club celebrated their 50th anniversary earlier this month with a president’s game at the Clydebank Community Sports Hub followed by a dinner dance at the Golden Jubilee Hotel which was attended by almost 180 past and present members.

The president’s game saw the Clydebank first XV take on a team specially selected or invited by club president Robert Williamson.

The president’s team this year comprised of players from Hyndland, Police Scotland, Cumbernauld and Loch Lomond and was attended by former President of Scottish Rugby Ed Crozier and Glasgow North SRU Rep Willie Gardner who brought along the Calcutta Cup and Pro 14 trophies with Scottish Rugby Union President Dee Bradbury a guest at the dinner dance.

Clydebank chairman Ross McCombe commented: “The last year has been momentous for the rugby club with the move to the new world class facility and then celebrating our 50th along with the growth of the Titans.

“We would all like to thank Ed, Willie and Dee for their continued support in helping us make this a club we can all be proud of.”

The young Titans, meanwhile, are celebrating their first year in existence with a Come and Try session on Saturday, June 29 from 11am to 1pm at the new Community Sports Hub.

With just five regulars this time last year, the youngsters’ move to the new Sports Hub has seen the number rise to almost 40 with numerous taster and coaching sessions taking place in a number of schools throughout the year to ensure a steady feed of new rugby players.

Titans coach David Cairns said: “We recently held our first ever presentation night which was attended by almost 120 people who all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and next up is another Come and Try day on June 29 from 11am to 1pm which we hope will be well attended. Look out for the banner about town.”

Coach Jack Burgoyne added: “We have had a few games this year and the kids and parents have absolutely loved it but we have also had to call fixtures off due to lack of numbers so our target is to get the numbers to a point where we can accept any fixtures without fear of having to cancel. We have had nothing but positive feedback from the parents so thank you to them.”

Rugby is free to all at the Titans with training taking place on Tuesdays night at 6.30pm and Sunday afternoons at 12pm.
