Clydebank boss Kieran McAnespie demanding more from his side

Goals from Jamie Darroch, Jordan Shelvey and Nicky Little saw Bankies take all three points in a largely frustrating afternoon - their first win in five after a stop start run of games.

McAnespie’s men were two goals to the good after 90 seconds, but the manager couldn’t hit his frustration.

He said: “We were lucky in the end, but we started really well. When you go 2-0 up within 90 seconds, it’s incredible.

“We took our foot off the gas and they used all their experience to put us under pressure, but thankfully we saw it out. 

“I think going forward it’s probably not going to be very pretty on the pitch because it’s so bobbly and it’s not ideal for how we’re trying to play. It’s about trying to manage that by being efficient.

“Renfrew are used to playing on a good pitch, and then they come here - and you don’t realise how bobbly it is. It’s just the weather that’s caused it, there’s nothing Maryhill could’ve done to improve it, but it’s all about trying to use that to our advantage because other teams will be caught out by it as well.”

The win means Bankies are now mathematically safe in the West Region Premiership and McAnespie admits he’s already looking forward to next season. 

He said: “It’s yet another incredible finish from Nicky Little, who is just frightening. He has so much ability, and when it clicks with Jordan’s pace and our other attacking threats, it’s going to be really special to watch especially next season on a better surface.

“With the redevelopment of Holm Park, we need to make it a fortress. When teams come down, they’re going to need to beat us well and hopefully we can pick up maybe 10 wins away from home which puts you in a positive position."
