Newly-formed Clydebank Titans Rugby Club played their first ever match earlier this month as they came up against Kelpies Rugby, a side combining players from Cumbernauld, Falkirk, Grangemouth and Hillfoots RFC.

Played in great spirit with a competitive edge, Titans lost out 40-20 to a much more organised and experienced Kelpies group.

Head coach Jack Burgoyne was nevertheless proud of all the kids for their efforts and commitment to the new team and is looking forward to the next game.

The Titans S1 and S2 rugby group then welcomed a strong Allan Glen’s side to the Community Sports Hub at the weekend as they lined up in just their second match.

And while the vastly experienced visitors proved too much on the day, the Titans showed a real improvement with the ball in hand with some lovely offloads leading to two really nice tries from Sean Harrison.

With Bishopbriggs side Glen’s showing their experience throughout, it was always going to be a tough challenge for the Clydebank youngsters but they did well to keep fighting until the end in an enjoyable game played in a terrific spirit.

Titans training is open to boys and girls from primary one all the way up to an U18 age group and takes place at the new state of the art Clydebank Community Sports Hub on Tuesday evenings 6.30pm to 8pm and Sunday afternoons 12pm to 1.30pm.

The club are still looking to recruit new players in all age groups and are inviting anyone interested or any parents interested to come along to one of their training sessions at the new hub or get in touch on the club’s Facebook page to learn about the sport and make new friends.

The training caters to all age groups with the younger kids taking part in touch rugby - a safer version of the sport - before progressing to full contact.
