Duntocher Hibs AFC opened their SAFL Premier League 2 campaign with a 6-2 win over Carlton YMCA on Saturday at Kibble School in Paisley.

There was only one change to the starting line-up from last week’s game.

There were early signings that Hibees might struggle, and went 1-0 down early on.

Midfielder Josh White levelled at 1-1 only to see the side fall behind again through a combination of hesitancy and poor defending.

Steven Peters levelled for the second time, before Scott Kelly scored a superb goal with a great strike from all of 22 yards out to make it 3-2 at half-time.

The second period saw the introduction of Michael Hopkirk who seemed to inspire a whole new confidence throughout the Hibs side.

Barry O’Donnell joined shortly afterwards and the team came alive with some of the good passing and shooting.

Josh White scored Duntocher’s fourth goal before Darren Murray and Mark Smart got involved, and by then it was all Hibs.

A clever free-kick from Matt White sneaked in at the far post to make it 5-2 then the away side played keep ball with White, O’Donnell and Hopkirk all creating chances only to see them go narrowly wide or producing some marvellous stops from the home goalkeeper.

With minutes remaining on the clock the Hibees produced the goal of the game when some wonderful inter play between O’Donnell, Murray and White before the latter curled in a beautiful corner which sailed into the net to see the game finish 6-2. Duntocher’s next game is at home to Millbeg on Saturday, kick-off is at 2pm.
