Former Drumchapel Amateurs player Nicky Devlin has moved to English League One side Walsall.

The Ayr United captain has moved from Somerset Park to the Bescot Stadium on a two-year deal.

The right-back turned down the chance to stay with the Honest Men to secure his move to England.

Devlin’s senior career began with Dumbarton, first signing for the Sons in 2009 but he made his breakthrough during the 2010-11 season.

This earned him a move to Motherwell, but a run of injuries meant he was loaned back to the Sons in 2012 to help build up his fitness.

He then moved to Stenhousemuir, before joining Ayr and making 104 appearances for United.

He reportedly turned down a move last summer from the Scottish Premiership to stay with Ayr, but has moved on this summer to become Walsall’s fourth signing.
