NEW Clydebank signing Robbie Halliday is confident he can handle playing at a higher level after making the move to Bankies from Dalry Thistle.

The defender spent two seasons with the Ayrshire District outfit. Following an injury disrupted season last term, he jumped at the chance to join Budgie McGhie’s new look squad.

The 22-year-old, who is most comfortable at right back but can play anywhere across the back line, revealed that the step up to the Super League First and moving to a club the size of Clydebank were massive draws.

He said: “I was quite unlucky last year with injuries and that was frustrating. Other than moving to a bigger team, it’ll be good to hopefully get a full year playing as much as possible.

“Playing for a bigger club is what I’m most looking forward to. I’ve had a couple of years at junior level with Dalry, no disrespect to them at all but Clydebank is obviously a much bigger club.

“I’ve noticed the professionalism in training and games from the staff around the club has been a lot higher.” Halliday joins a number of young players to sign up for Clydebank this summer as they bid to return to the top tier after last season’s relegation.

Early signs are good with Bankies putting on a convincing display in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Ashfield in the Sectional League Cup.

Halliday has been impressed with what he has seen from the squad and insists they are well placed to challenge for promotion.

He said: “I think we have to be pushing for promotion, for a club this size and having seen the team we have. We put in good performances against senior sides in the friendlies.

“Obviously it is hard to tell at this early stage but I think there are positive signs, all the players we have come from good teams. There is competition for places which we will need if we are going to challenge.” Robbie was not the only Halliday to sign for a new club in the summer, brother Andy signed for boyhood heroes Rangers after leaving Bradford City. Halliday admits it is a dream come true to see his sibling turn out for the team they’ve both supported from a young age.

He said: “It’s great to have him back, it’s alright when I want a couple of tickets.

“No it’s great to have him back, we both keep an eye on each others football, we’ve always been like that.

“It’s amazing to see him playing for Rangers, everyone talks about it being his dream to play for Rangers and it is but it is the same for the full family.”
