Clydebank first XV came unstuck in the mud against an impressive Cambuslang side at weather torn Whitecrook.

After dominating possession and territory in the first half, Clydebank eventually succumbed to a strong away side who took advantage of poor defending in the second period to take the bonus point victory back to the south side.

The Red and Blacks began well and repelled an early Cambuslang break from kick off to take control of field position.

They battered away at the visitors with strong phase play from the pack, using centre David Howie to smash holes in the defence. The away side defended strongly and held out for 10 minutes before the Bank forwards started a catch and drive from a lineout.

Graeme Kyle was in control as the pack rumbled over the line to open the scoring but Moffatt missed the conversion.

Cambuslang responded in almost identical fashion five minutes later from their own rumbling maul from a lineout peeled off into the open side to level the scores.

Bank were composed but were under pressure in their own half and Cambuslang were making good yards returning kicks in open play. They took the lead soon after but the game was in the balance as the teams turned round at half time.

Cambuslang coped better with the poor conditions in the second half than the home team.

They extended their lead with a converted try and were running into poor first time tackles as the home side had to resort to scrambling defence. Bank had a period of 10 minutes with 14 men following a yellow card as their discipline deteriorated.

They lost the bonus point try but hit back through captain Euan Cuthbert, who barged over after a sustained period of pressure as Bank tried to fight back into the game but Cambuslang scored another try at the final whistle to end the match 31-10 winners.

The second XV’s friendly against Irvine was called off due to Irvine unable to field a team. With the Six Nations beginning Bank have no league fixtures for two weeks.
