CLYDEBANK have signed local defender Austin McCann from SFL side Ayr United.

The 33-year-old left back was attracting interest from several professional sides, however, the Bankie made the decision to join his local team.

After putting pen to paper for Budgie McGhie's side, the former Airdrie, Hearts, Clyde, Boston United, Notts County and Dunfermline star revealed he was sold on the move after speaking to ex-Bankies star Darian MacKinnon.

He said: "I am really happy to have signed for Clydebank, and after playing professional all my career, it is nice to have joined my local side.

"When I was younger, I went to Kilbowie to watch a few Clydebank games and I even did my work experience at Kilbowie and loved every second of it.

"So now to be playing for my local team is great and I am delighted this opportunity has come along for me.

"After meeting Budgie and speaking to him about the club, he told me of his ambition and recent statistics show how fantastic a job he has done.

"He really encouraged me to sign, as did Darian who I played with at Ayr United.

"I asked him about the move and he really played a part in me coming here.

"He only had good things to say about the club and the fans." Bankies boss Budgie McGhie added: "Austin is a major signing for us and we know he had other options in the SFL, so for him to sign for us is exciting and a great addition to the team.

"He is experienced and a nice person, so I am sure he will fit in well here and do well at the club." Former Clydebank striker Darian MacKinnon said: "When Austin asked me about joining Clydebank, I could only tell him good things about the club and I am delighted for him and the club he has signed.

"He is a good player and I am glad I could help my old team sign another top player, because that is the type of player that Clydebank can attract."
