It truly has been a horrendous year for everyone, however, there is now light at the end of the tunnel with the roll out of the vaccine which will allow us to start returning back to some form of normal life.

However, while there is reason to be optimistic, until the vaccine is rolled out people must still exercise every caution to stay safe and continue to follow government guidelines.

Once again, I would also like to take this opportunity to praise our magnificent frontline workers who put their lives on the line to protect us, this nation owes you a debt of gratitude.

In particular, I would like to thank the G15 Youth Project in Drumchapel for the tremendous work they have carried out with young people in our community, helping them throughout this pandemic.

There is no doubt that Covid-19 has seen a huge rise in people suffering from mental health issues, therefore, I would urge that if anyone’s mental health is suffering then please reach out as there are organisations out there that can help.

Finally, this year saw Drumchapel being left without a Christmas tree or lights from Glasgow City Council due to cut backs.

Fortunately, however, pressure from local people and the Community Council saw the council restore the Christmas lights to three locations in the area.

Well done to all those involved in raising their concern at the lack of lights in the area. However, I would also like to reassure everyone that I will be calling a meeting in January with the relevant departments and the community councils for Ward 14 to make sure this situation does not happen again.

I would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Above all else, though, please stay safe. We are all in this together, and if we stay safe and follow the government’s guidelines, we will all come out of this together.
