According to the column by Labour councillor Douglas McAllister in the Post two weeks ago, we have all just to forget the Labour record from when they were last in power.

Let me remind them of just some aspects of Labour’s record in Scotland.

· Six council houses built in Scotland in eight years. Hard to believe but true.

· Selling off tens of thousands of council houses, 3,500 in West Dunbartonshire alone,

· £1.5 billion sent back to Westminster because they could not find anything worthwhile to spend it on in Scotland.

· Almost every Labour MP in Scotland, including the one representing Clydebank at the time, voted for the austerity that we are all still suffering from. Of course, that Labour MP lost her seat, like most of her MP pals, over this sell-out.

· Labour gave us wall-to-wall PFI for schools, hospitals and just about everything else, including parking charges at some of our major hospitals, which we will still be paying for the next 20 years.

· Labour, to their shame, stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Tories in the 2014 referendum and still do in some councils in Scotland.

· Labour are in favour of the Trident death traps that are just 20 miles from the heart of Clydebank, and the storage of all the UK’s nuclear weapons at Coulport.

· Labour are against you having the right to decide whether or not Scotland should be independent, and will block a referendum.

Since Labour were having a go at the SNP in the Post, let me tell you what the SNP has done in 13 years.

· Prescription charges abolished in Scotland (£9 per item in England).

· No tuition fees.

· Free bus travel – more than one million people now enjoy free travel, including over 60s and disabled people.

· Care for all - free personal and nursing care extended to everyone who needs it, regardless of age.

· Childcare – 1,140 hours of early learning and childcare, equivalent to 30 hours per week term time.

· 50 per cent more and better paid police officers per head of population as England, and twice as many firefighters.

· 35 per cent more teachers per head.

· 16 per cent more spent on education per person.

· 26 per cent more doctors per head.

· Baby box – giving every baby born and resident in Scotland the best start in life.

· Waiting times at A&E in Scotland are light years better than Labour-run Wales.

· SNP have put a stop to the sale of council houses.

Positive change has come to Scotland in the past 13 years – and it continues with the SNP.
