As I am sure we will all agree, the last few months have been a hugely difficult time for each and every one of us. I know that our deepest sympathies are with those among us who have lost someone close.

On a personal note I would like to thank every one of the organisations in Ward 14 who have been to the fore in helping those in need of support in these times.

Groups such as the great team at Drumchapel Food Bank, all three community councils in the area, Men Matter, G15 and everyone else who has given of their time are truly inspiring. It makes me proud to be one of your elected representatives.

Now, back to council business. Things are now starting to get back to some kind of normality and work continues to build again.

There are a number of issues that I am dealing with, such as blocked gulleys which are causing flooding in some areas. I have been assured that they will be dealt with as a priority.

Other things that have been brought to my attention include problems with bulk waste uplifts and glass recycling bins. I can tell you that the glass collections are hopefully starting back in the week beginning July 20, though that date has yet to be confirmed. Bulk uplifts will restart as soon as possible.

In the last few days I have received numerous enquiries with regards to the pop up cycle lanes that are being put in place on Great Western Road between Lincoln Avenue and Duntreath Road, and I have raised these questions with the council’s roads department.

Other issues such as housing problems, parking questions and school placements requests are also on the list of things that I am looking into.

On a disappointing note, in light of the problems created by the pandemic, the decision was taken recently to cancel the Winter Fest event in Drumchapel for this year.

Whilst I know that this will be a huge loss to the community this year, please be assured that myself and Councillor Carey will be working to make the return next year a night to remember.

As I said at the start of this column these have been testing times for us all. But as we move forward, I am reminded of two things: one is a book by Aldous Huxley titled Brave New World; the other is a song by David Essex with the same title.

Let us all move forward united as a community into whatever this new post-pandemic world throws our way.
