I HOPE my column finds you well as we find ourselves in these extremely extraordinary times.

As we have had to adapt to a new way of life and a new way of working, I am heartened by the response of our communities.

So many people have volunteered to help and united in huge numbers to respond to Covid-19 across our town.

Times are hard but the Bankies are resolute as ever, as we help our most vulnerable, making sure folk get the essentials they require, from food to just a wee chat.

I am privileged to be helping out daily at Centre81 in Whitecrook, where we deliver food parcels to those that are unable to get out to shop, or to those whose income has dropped due to being unable to work because of the restrictions.

If you would like to help the food bank, donations can be dropped off at Centre81, 2-16 Braes Avenue, Whitecrook, G81 1DP, between 9am-3pm.

The items required include tins of soup, beans, tomatoes, meat, potatoes, fish, pasta, sugar, cereal, coffee and tea.

Your donations will be extremely welcome.

I would like to thank the team, John, Jill and Andrew, and also Clydebank Housing Association for its kind donation of funds and for allowing the centre to stay open during these times.

Great thanks are also due to our key workers, including our doctors, nurses, carers, shop workers, post workers, delivery drivers and all those others working on the frontline.

These selfless individuals put themselves at risk on a daily basis to help us all.

It’s heartening to see so many come together on Thursday nights at 8pm to applaud them.

We see first-hand the respect our communities have for these truly essential workers.

I know it is extremely hard for us all not to see our families and friends, or to get out and about to places that we enjoy, but it is important that we stay home for now, to stay safe and protect others.

We will get through this together and will be able to see our family and friends again.

In the meantime, take time to tell them how much they mean to you, this crisis makes us realise the things in life that really matter.
