Virgin Money has announced the closure of 12 branches in Scotland due to fewer customers using the banks day-to-day.

The former Clydesdale Bank branches are located across Scotland, with 18 more due to shut UK-wide from early next year.

According to the bank, all the branches closing are located less than a third of a mile away from the nearest post office, although some people will be considerably further from another Virgin Money.

The closures are expected to impact around 76 workers in Scotland, with the bank saying it will find alternative roles where possible.

However, it has not ruled out potential redundancies.

Here are the 12 branches closing in Scotland...

Which Virgin Money branches are closing in Scotland?

The 12 Virgin Money branches closing in early 2022 in Scotland are:

  • Airdrie
  • Banchory
  • Broughty Ferry
  • Cumbernauld
  • East Kilbride
  • Galashiels
  • Milngavie
  • Musselburgh
  • Oban
  • Portree
  • Stenhousemuir
  • Wick

For people using the Portree branch, their nearest branch will now be over 100 mile away in Fort William.

Unite industrial officer Debbie Hutchings deemed the closures "shameful", adding: "The announcement will disproportionately impact on workers and communities across Scotland.

"Island communities from Portree to rural towns such as Wick are going to be left behind by Virgin Money.

"Our nation's town centres, from Cumbernauld to Musselburgh, will be further hollowed out as fewer people will come into town if there is no bank branch."
