Andy Murray is back on the tennis scene, and into the quarter finals of the men's Olympic doubles in Tokyo.

Despite having to withdraw from the singles tournament, preventing him the opportunity to defend his title for a third time, Murray is going strong with partner Joe Salisbury.

We don't often see the Scot play doubles, but he is certainly proving successful as the duo continue into the final eight teams.

Murray is of course a household name in the UK, but what about his partner Joe Salisbury?

Here's everything you need to know about the Team GB tennis player...

Who is Joe Salisbury?

It's perhaps no surprise that the Murray-Salisbury duo is going so well in the tournament: Salisbury was once ranked third in the world for doubles.

Like Murray, he is no stranger to Grand Slam success, winning the men's doubles in the 2020 Australian Open and then the French Open in the mixed doubles just two months ago.

Seemingly the Brit is in the form of his life this year; not only did he become champion at Roland Garros, but he reached doubles finals in both the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

It's a streak he will look to extend with an Olympic final in his first games, which would result in a guaranteed medal and Murray's fourth overall.

When are Murray and Salisbury next playing?

Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury will contest the men's doubles quarter final against Croatia at 4:30am UK time on Wednesday July 28.

They face Croatia's Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig for a chance to reach the semi-finals.

The GB pair came through in straight sets against Germany in what has so far seemed a fairly straight forward tournament, having not yet dropped a set.

Murray is currently managing a minor thigh strain which forced him to withdraw from the singles tournament.

He has said he expects it to hold up for the remainder of the doubles event before he takes a break post-Olympics.
