A 76-year-old man has died in a house fire.
Emergency services were called to a building in Macduff, Aberdeenshire, at around 5am on Sunday morning.
But despite the efforts of both police and firefighters, the man died at the scene.
Neighbouring properties in The Leys were evacuated as a precaution, but nobody else was injured and no other buildings were damaged.
Detective Inspector Sam Buchan of Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very sad time.
“Our enquiries have started in conjunction with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, however we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances.
“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
