A parent has been reported after their child was charged as police seized e-bikes and fireworks during an ongoing crackdown in Clydebank.

Plain-clothed officers intercepted two illegally ridden ‘Surron’ style bikes in Clydebank over the weekend, seizing both vehicles along with a large 40-shot firework.

One rider was charged with road traffic and fireworks offences. The rider’s parent was also reported for permitting the use of a vehicle without insurance, after purchasing the bike and allowing it to be used.

Police said the proactive action forms part of ongoing efforts ahead of Operation Moonbeam.

Officers are actively removing such vehicles from the streets and have issued a warning to parents and guardians.

Police are emphasising that buying these vehicles and allowing children to ride them on public paths or roads without insurance and the correct licence is against the law, and parents or guardians may face prosecution themselves.

The warning covers privately owned e-scooters, high-powered e-bikes over 250W, exceeding 15.5mph or throttle-propelled, as well as off-road petrol motorcycles, pit bikes, scramblers and quad bikes.
