Long queues have formed across arteries in Clydebank as the town is in the centre of a double bridge closure.

Drivers were warned that the Erskine Bridge is closed southbound and one carriageway is closed northbound until 6am on Monday, August 17.

The rescheduled closure is allowing for essential resurfacing work to take place.

Meanwhile the Renfrew Bridge is also facing intermittent closures due to the Waverley Paddle Steamer heading along the Clyde.

The bridge has so far been closed between 1.45pm and 2.45pm with a further closure between 6.30pm and 7.15pm tonight.

Due to these restrictions, residents are reporting long queues mainly along Dumbarton Road and in Dalmuir.

The Paw Society Glasgow shared an image of the line of traffic to Facebook, calling the stretch of road "madness."

They said: "Avoid trying to go over Renfrew bridge from Clydebank - this is the tail back of queue all the way from Yoker, queue goes past bottom of Kilbowie Road up towards Dalmuir. Madness!"

Another resident in the town said: "Erskine Bridge and Renfrew Bridge closed, its chaos everywhere."

A third person said: "The shopping centre is almost at a standstill."

A fourth person said they got caught in the chaos this afternoon. They said: "I just tried to get to Clydebank shopping centre from Dalmuir. Absolutely mayhem, turned back but still got caught up in it all again at Kilbowie Road."
