The family of a victim of a serial rapist who also attacked a girl in Clydebank says they are 'desperate' to have his mugshot released.

Thomas McCann, was sentenced to 12 years in prison at the High Court in Glasgow on May 21, after being convicted of the rape of three women and the physical and psychological abuse of a partner.

The relatives of one women approached the Clydebank Post, hoping to have his conviction released to the public in an article.

They believe that there could be more victims out there, or people who will not know of his name due to his "use of aliases".

We have chosen not to identify the family out of respect for the victim who has since passed away.

Her aunt said: "It completely destroyed my niece's life. She went from a fun-loving, fiercely independent young woman to someone that sits there and just wears dark clothes and wouldn't get involved in conversations.

"It was like somebody's just switched the light off.

"He had a tracker on her car, he knew everywhere she went. She moved six times to get away from him and six times he found her.

"It was unbelievable. Every time a car pulled up outside my house, every time my phone went, every time my door went, you actually seen her flinching."

McCann was found guilty of eight charges against the women on April 27.

This included an attack on a woman who was just 19-years-old as she made her way home from a night out in the city to Clydebank.

In a sentencing statement released by the Judiciary of Scotland, Judge Brown said: "She was plainly vulnerable in that she was on her own, was young at the age of 19 -  almost exactly half your age of 37, and was drunk.

"You persuaded her to go back to your flat and there raped her. When giving evidence about this matter at the trial she was so distressed that she struggled to speak about it.

"These are serious offences and the only appropriate sentence is a substantial period of imprisonment."

After the family got in touch, the Glasgow Times reached out to Police Scotland to enquire about obtaining a mugshot of McCann.

We were told that that the force needed "to have a policing purpose to do so."

It is understood the force only releases images of offenders if it is a high enough profile case or there is significant public interest.

The victim's uncle said that the family believe there are more victims out there and releasing his image could allow others to come forward.

He said: "It’s 100% wrong, because it's as if he is still being protected.

"I'm thinking there's more out there. There's absolutely 100% I know more women out there.

"While he was with my niece, he used about four or five different names.

"I'm more for the fact that other girls out there still may be scared to go certain places in case they bumped into him. My hand and heart think there is more girls out there that he's done that to."

Police Scotland declined to comment.
