NHS bosses are offering their "sincere apologies" to patients who have had their appointments cancelled through a recent IT issue.

Services at the Red Wing GP Practice will return to normal from Monday, May 18, after the surgery was battling disruption caused by the problem for almost a month.

We first reported on April 24, how the Queens Quay facility had been turning away non-urgent cases after reporting an issue with a recent external system upgrade.

In a text sent to residents and seen by the Clydebank Post, NHS Scotland said the issue is "outwith their control" and that they had raised the matter to "the highest level".

Now, Fraser McJannett, Director of Primary Care and GP Out of Hours for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, has confirmed the matter has "significantly improved."

Patients received a text on Friday, May 15, informing them that normal services will restart from Monday and that they have increased the capacity for GP appointments over the new few weeks to try and accommodate patients which have been struggling to be seen throughout the month.

McJannett said: "We fully recognise how frustrating this situation was for patients, and I would like to offer our sincere apologies to everyone affected by the disruption. We understand that access to primary care is vitally important, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience this caused.

"The issue related to wider IT systems outwith the control of the Red Wing practice. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde worked closely with the practice and relevant system partners to address the problem, and we are reassured that the matter has significantly improved, allowing the practice to function normally. We are grateful to patients for their understanding and patience during this time.

"Throughout this period, the Red Wing practice made every effort to ensure that patients with urgent needs continued to receive care. We are and remain committed to supporting the practice and the local community moving forward."
