AN Albanian driver was pulled over and said he was Greek with a fake licence, a court has heard.
Police were on patrol in Clydebank more than a year ago when they spotted a silver Citroen C3 ahead of them.
They pulled the driver over on Onslow Road at the junction with Drumry Road around 9.40pm on March 18, 2025.
The man said he was named Ilias Mavrakis, born in Greece and living in Croft Road, Glasgow.
Police checked and the licence with that name had his face. And a check showed the vehicle was registered and insured to that name.
But officers put in a query to Home Office immigration enforcement - and they couldn't find the immigration status of Mr Mavrakis.
They cautioned and charged the man, taking him to Clydebank police office. There, he admitted he was actually Xhoni Karaj and was Albanian with no fixed address. This was confirmed by fingerprints.
More than a year later, the 29-year-old, of Bisland Drive, Glasgow, pleaded guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on May 6. He admitted having a Greek driver's licence that he knew or believed to be false.
The Crown accepted he was not guilty of driving without a licence or insurance, and to giving false details to police in an attempt to pervert the course of justice.
Sheriff John McElroy KC deferred sentence for reports to be prepared on June 16.
