Run down of the new MSP representing Clydebank at Holyrood

Residents have elected their representative for the area for the next five years following the Scottish Parliamentary Election.

Marie McNair will continue to represent Clydebank and Milngavie at Holyrood after holding the seat for the SNP in the 2026 Scottish Parliament election.

More than 31,000 people in the constituency voted representing, 58.03% of the electorate.

McNair secured 38% of the vote, around eight percentage points down on her performance at the last election in 2021, but still enough to see off a strong Labour challenge and a growing electorate for Reform UK.

She will enter her second term in the Scottish Parliament after gaining 12,126 votes. Scottish Labour candidate, Callum McNally came in second closest still around 5000 short of McNair.

The final vote count was:

  • Claire Gallagher, Scottish Common Party - 647 votes
  • Ben Langmead, Scottish Liberal Democrats - 4419 votes
  • Alix Mathieson, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party - 1820 votes
  • Marie A McNair, Scottish National Party (SNP) - 12,126 votes
  • Callum McNally, Scottish Labour Party - 7929 votes
  • Andy White, Reform UK - 4510 votes

Making her speech ahead being reinstate in her position, Marie McNair said it was an 'absolute honour and privilege' to represent the town she was born, raised and lives in.

“I say this clearly to each and every one of my constituents, regardless of how you voted, I'm on your side and I won't let you down.

“I'll continue to be a strong voice for the constituency and our national parliament and I've got to say this has been a tough election campaign, during which I've listened to thousands of people on the doorsteps and other ways of our communication.

“It was good to hear your support for the many things that I've been trying to achieve on your behalf."

She added: "I've got to say, I will work hard for you and my team are here and we want to achieve and get a better deal for our constituency and also for Scotland but we can do this positively and not be thrown off our course by those who seek to create division and hatred and offer slogans, not solutions. I will drive forward with energy, compassion and won't let you down."

Along with McNair's constituency position, the electorate also voted for seven regional MSPs to represent the West of Scotland.

These votes elected Russell Findlay of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, Ross Greer and Cara McKee of the Scottish Green Party, Neil Bibby and Katy Clark from Scottish Labour and Malcolm Offord and David Smith for Reform UK.

David Smith ran against veteran politician Jackie Baillie in her Dumbarton constituency, however she managed to retain her seat seeing off SNP opposition.
