Here's who is running to be the MSP for Clydebank and Milngavie - and what they want to do in the area.

Six candidates are running in the hopes of taking up a seat in the Scottish Parliament after the election on May 7, to represent the town.

People will be asked to go to the polls to pick who they want to represent them as their MSP. Alternatively, many will have already completed their postal vote by this time.

Each candidate has been contacted by the Clydebank Post and asked to explain why they are running, what issue matter most to them and the first thing they would do as MSP.

Here is a run down, in alphabetical order, the people who want your vote:

Claire Gallagher - Scottish Common Party

Claire said: " I am standing to be the MSP for Clydebank and Milngavie because our community deserves better. The issues that matter most to me are the rising cost of living, access to reliable local healthcare, and ensuring that families, carers, and older residents feel supported not overlooked. Too many people are working hard but still struggling, and that needs to change.

"If elected, the first thing I would do is listen. I want to meet with local residents, community groups, and businesses to ensure their concerns directly shape my priorities. Alongside this, I would push for improved support for essential services, particularly healthcare and public transport, which people rely on every day.

"People should vote for me because I offer a fresh, honest approach. I am standing for the Scottish Common Party to put people before politics and to be a strong, accessible voice for our area. I will work tirelessly to represent Clydebank and Milngavie and to deliver the change our community deserves."

Ben Langmead - Scottish Liberal Democrats

Ben said: "I am excited to be running for the Clydebank and Milngavie constituency for the Scottish Liberal Democrats. For 14 years, I have called Bearsden my home; I would not live anywhere else. I have raised my family here and I am lucky enough to represent Bearsden South on the council.

"Unfortunately, I have seen this area move backwards under the SNP.  For too many people, it feels like things aren't working.

"Household bills are soaring; taxes are going up, but services are reduced. People are struggling to see their GP and they're worried about the state of our schools. The fine people of Clydebank and Milngavie deserve better than this.

"That's why I will use my platform to fight for a new health centre that will deliver first-rate healthcare for everyone. I will fight for support with the cost of living and for the funding needed to improve our schools and fix our roads.

"Clydebank and Milngavie deserves change with fairness at its heart. I hope you can place your trust in me to deliver that change by backing the Scottish Liberal Democrats on both ballot papers on May 7."

Alix Mathieson - Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Alix said: "I am honoured to be standing as the Scottish Conservative candidate for Clydebank and Milngavie. It’s been fantastic to get out on the doors and hear about people’s priorities for their local area.

"For too long, out of touch SNP ministers in Edinburgh have ignored the needs of people in Clydebank.

"Roads are scarred with potholes, educational standards have plummeted, anti-social behaviour is out of control and folk can’t get access to the healthcare they desperately need.

"But Labour are nowhere to be seen, while all the SNP do is bang on about another divisive independence referendum.

"It’s about time that folk in Clydebank and Milngavie had a local MSP who is focused on the real issues and that’s my promise to folk in this constituency.

"If elected I will prioritise fixing potholes, raising educational standards, cracking down on anti-social behaviour, improving access to local healthcare and ensuring that the local community centres remain open to the public.

"But if the SNP win, nothing will change. That’s why you need to vote for me on your purple ballot and for the Scottish Conservative party on your peach ballot, that’s your secret weapon to stop an SNP majority."

Marie A McNair - Scottish National Party (SNP)

Running for re-election, Marie said: "I was born, raised and still live in Clydebank, so I know and care deeply about our town and surrounding areas. My knowledge of our community also comes from many years working as part of the nursing team in the Saint Margaret of Scotland Hospice before entering parliament. This real-life experience shapes my approach, and I remain committed to being a strong voice for our constituency.

"My focus, if re-elected, will be on decisive action to
tackle the cost of living: capping bus fares to £2, expanding free breakfast
clubs in primary schools, improving childcare provision and introducing a price
cap on essential foods. Securing resources for the NHS, improving our environment,
addressing litter, anti-social behaviour and repairing potholes are also
 priorities.

"Championing decent and affordable housing, supporting local
businesses and protecting a healthy, sustainable environment will continue to
guide my work. I am also dedicated to securing truth and justice for those
affected by asbestos exposure, supporting WASPI women, and ensuring unpaid
carers receive the recognition and help they deserve.

"If I receive your support my commitment will be to continue to put you first and be a strong voice for Clydebank and Milngavie in the Scottish Parliament."

Callum McNally - Scottish Labour Party

Callum said: "The people of Clydebank and Milngavie experience many of the same challenges seen across Scotland: pressures on our NHS, a shortage of affordable housing, limited opportunities for young people, and a declining public realm. The Scottish Labour Party has set out a clear plan to address these issues and deliver real change.

"We will invest in our NHS while reforming its structure to cut excessive bureaucracy and ensure more resources reach frontline staff and services. We will end the 8 am rush for GP appointments, making it easier to access care when needed. To tackle the housing crisis, we will build 125,000 new homes and work to end rough sleeping for good.

"We are committed to supporting young people by retaining free university tuition, creating 9,000 new apprenticeships, and strengthening colleges so everyone has the chance to succeed. We will also establish a £350 million fund to repair roads and pavements.

"If elected, I will act immediately on the concerns raised by local people through the hundreds of doorstep conversations I have had during this campaign. After 19 years of SNP government, many feel they are paying more and receiving less. It’s time to refocus on the basics and deliver the change Scotland needs.”

Andy White - Reform UK

Andy said: "Many of our working families are struggling with the cost of living. For far too long we’ve been living with taxes that are too high whilst our public services decline.

"A Reform UK Scottish Government will realign our Scottish Tax bands with the UK tax bands and cut income tax by 1p in every £1. By the end of our first term in
government our ambition is to cut income tax by 3p in every £1.

"We have a tax calculator on our Reformuk.Scot website which demonstrates how much people will save and this will help every single working household. We need fairer funding for our councils. All our services have been in decline for years as councils experience significant financial shortfalls.

"I will be demanding improved funding for our councils so that we can reverse cuts to our local services. Many recent public sector pay rises agreed by the Scottish Government have not been fully funded, which only adds to the financial pressures on our councils and this needs to stop now.

"Vote for me and Reform UK during this election to lower taxes, ease the cost of living, address government waste and ensure fair funding for our council."
