Mr McAllister said: “Uniting to beat cancer has never been more important.
“It affects every family in every constituency and I see the devastating impact of the disease week in, week out in West Dunbartonshire.
“Cancer Research UK’s work shows how, right now, UK researchers are driving scientific breakthroughs that could change how we prevent, diagnose and treat cancer – bringing hope to thousands.”
The MP met with Cancer Research UK campaigners who emphasised the urgency of accelerating research, as cancer cases continue to rise across the UK and Scotland.
He said: “Nearly one in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
“More than 7400 people were diagnosed with cancer last year across Greater Glasgow and Clyde alone.
“There’s so much more to do.
“That’s why we must continue to support and invest in UK innovation to save more lives.
“Research makes more precious moments possible for people affected by cancer and their loved ones.”
