If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be writing my first newspaper column as an elected councillor, I wouldn’t have believed you.
I was honoured to be elected in May to represent the area I proudly call home.
This ward is where I live and work, and during my campaign, I promised to make sure local people are heard and supported with the issues that matter to them.
Over the past six weeks, I’ve been doing just that – listening, learning, and meeting as many people and groups as possible.
I’ve attended two community council meetings to introduce myself and hear what’s important to residents.

I also joined a walkabout in Whitecrook with Councillor June McKay, the Whitecrook Community Action Group, and West Dunbartonshire Council officers to highlight issues needing urgent attention.
It was a pleasure to visit the Shad Learning Centre, a local Islamic space for worship and community, during their Eid al-Adha Salaah event.
Councillor Sophie Traynor and I were made to feel so welcome, and I’m grateful for the kindness shown to me on my first official visit.
I’ve been lucky to attend fantastic community events like the Our Holy Redeemer Primary School fete and RomanFest in Old Kilpatrick.
Councillor Lauren Oxley, MSP Marie McNair, and I attended RomanFest, organised by the brilliant Hydra Arts team.
It was a great family day celebrating our local history, filled with fun activities and a wonderful community spirit.
I also joined the Moments of Freedom event for World Refugee Day, celebrating the contributions of New Scots in Clydebank, and the Shameless Youth campaign event at Clydebank Town Hall.
Shameless Youth is an inspiring project led by local young people promoting healthy relationships online and offline.
Their energy and dedication were truly impressive.
I’ve also been holding joint surgeries with Councillor Sophie Traynor and Marie McNair MSP.
After the summer, I’ll begin running my own regular surgeries, with details available on the council website.
I hope local people will come along to speak with me—I’m here to help.
One of my favourite parts of this new role has been helping with constituent enquiries.
My work with the charity I founded in 2017 gave me a passion for supporting people and finding solutions, so getting stuck into local issues is something I genuinely enjoy.
I want everyone in Whitecrook, Dalmuir, and Old Kilpatrick to know I’m here when they need me.
You can contact me at Kevin.crawford@west-dunbarton.gov.uk or by calling or texting 07741 167749.
I’m grateful for this opportunity, and I won’t let you down.
