The Scottish Green candidate in the Clydebank Waterfront by-election has been suspended and reported to the police.

Eryn Browning is no longer standing to be a West Dunbartonshire councillor, and all party campaigning has stopped.

The Clydebank Post understands she was reported following posts that appeared on Facebook.

The transgender former candidate had previously been criticised for alleged remarks made, calling author JK Rowling a 'Holocaust denier' because of their stance on gender.

They were further criticised for tweets on X which claimed convicted rapist Isla Bryson should be treated as a woman.

Now the individual has been suspended from the party.

A Scottish Greens spokesperson said: "This individual was suspended from the Scottish Greens as soon as these allegations were known to us, with all local campaigning suspended.

"The Scottish Greens reported the situation to Police Scotland within 24 hours and will cooperate fully with any investigation."

A Police Scotland spokesperson: “On Wednesday, 30 April, 2025, we received a report regarding concerns linked to online communications. Officers will speak to the reporter to gather more information.”
