A pharmacy team based in Clydebank is in the running for a top award.

NHS Golden Jubilee's pharmacy department has been shortlisted for the Hospital Team of the Year at the 2025 Scottish Pharmacist Awards.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Saturday, April 26.

The team, based at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, has been recognised for its dedication and commitment to the profession.

This has been shown through its improvements in healthcare and clinical innovation.

The service provides care for patients across a range of elective services including ophthalmology and orthopaedics, as well as emergency heart, lung, and diagnostics care.

This includes Scotland's only heart transplant centre.

Following the national hospital's expansion with a new surgical centre over the past year, the pharmacy team set out a new vision and strategy.

This involved staffing and service provision, pharmacy hubs in each of the clinical areas to support patient care better, improved efficiency for discharge processes, reducing duplication and variation of work, and implementing cost-effective and sustainable workflows.

Laura Fulton, director of pharmacy at NHS Golden Jubilee, said: "I am immensely proud of the team and the work we have achieved, especially over the past year.

"The impact of the changes we have introduced has been impressive - patients are getting home quicker, more nurses’ time is being freed up to care for patients and, most importantly from our perspective, patients are having meaningful interactions with the highly trained pharmacy floor teams.

"The whole team has responded positively to the many changes in a short space of time.

"The new and improved structure has seen the teams embedded in all services, with positive multidisciplinary working on display and our patients are benefiting."

NHS Golden Jubilee has grown significantly over the last five years.

The hospital has seen the introduction of new services and increased existing ones to meet the country’s healthcare needs.

Other changes within the pharmacy department include the addition of Scotland’s first consultant pharmacist for cardiology, the introduction of a new pharmacy stock control system, and the implementation of HEPMA (Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration) to enhance current processes and patient safety.

Mark MacGregor, medical director at NHS Golden Jubilee, said: "NHS Golden Jubilee is the national leader in reducing patient waiting times for planned care and specialist services, and innovative teams like pharmacy help us deliver top-quality person-centred care for all of our patients.

"We are extremely proud of everyone in our pharmacy team for all of their hard work and dedication resulting in this deserved recognition, and we would like to wish them, and all the other worthy finalists, the best of luck on the night."
