A Clydebank man has started a new career as a construction apprentice with a home builder in Glasgow.
Ricky Booth, 31, will be doing an SVQ level 6 apprenticeship in Painting and Decorating, splitting his time between Persimmon sites and West College Scotland as part of his four-year apprenticeship.
Persimmon Homes has provided him with all the tools and equipment to kick-start his training, removing any financial constraints.
Ricky said: “I’m excited to start my new career with Persimmon West Scotland and begin my course at West College Scotland.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with one of the biggest home-builders in Britain, where I can learn the tricks of the trade from some of the best in the business.”
The home builder has recruited 10 new apprentices across its three operations in Scotland as part of its investment in its future talent.
This year’s cohort gathered in West Lothian this week, preparing for their leap into the construction industry.
Persimmon’s top management had the chance to chat with the newcomers about the value of their apprenticeship and the crucial role of the home building sector nationwide.
William Smith, regional apprenticeship manager at Persimmon’s, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Ricky to the business.
“His determination to succeed on site caught our eye and we are excited to see him develop throughout his apprenticeship.
“We pride ourselves on working closely with local construction colleges across the country, including West College Scotland, to ensure that young people with the ambition and attitude needed to succeed in the industry are given a platform to do so locally.”
