Marie McNair MSP visited Clyde Associated Engineers (CAE) as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week recently to hear about their impressive work.

The MSP for Clydebank and Milngavie visited their Dalmuir site.

Ms McNair got the chance to chat with current apprentices getting extremely valuable practical experience in such an important sector.

She said: “I was impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities at CAE and the valuable experience they are giving their apprentices.

“Apprenticeships play a key role in Scotland and enables apprentices to showcase their abilities in a working environment under the supervision of highly trained and experienced managers.

“I would urge anyone thinking of a career in engineering to look into applying for an apprenticeship as it will certainly put them on the right path where they want to be.”

Founded in 1952, CAE provides custom-fabricated products for conveying materials and fluids, and has completed projects for the whiskey, mining, pharmaceutical and food and drink industries.

Simon McLeod, executive director of CAE, said: "An apprenticeship is a great pathway to a successful career in engineering, providing the talent that we need to future-proof our business.

"We really value the talent and ideas apprentices bring to CAE, as well as their passion and willingness to learn."

Frank Mitchell, chair of Skills Development Scotland, said: “It is very clear that Apprenticeships play a vital role in meeting economic, environmental and health and wellbeing challenges and opportunities, helping Scotland to become a fairer, more equal society.”
