The Scottish SPCA is looking for volunteers in the West of Scotland to support the wellbeing of animals in their care.

Volunteer roles vary with some including direct contact with animals, while others focus on crucial fundraising and public engagement activities to support the charity's mission.

Katie Kennedy, regional fundraising lead for the West of Scotland, encouraged those who are passionate about animal welfare and want to make a positive impact on the lives of animals across Scotland to volunteer.

She said: "As a non-government-funded organisation, we depend entirely on the generosity of the public to sustain our vital work. Your involvement in our fundraising efforts will have a significant impact, and we deeply appreciate any support you can offer.

“A huge thank you to every single one of our volunteers - for everything you do, for your kindness and support, for your love of the animals and for giving up your time to help the Scottish SPCA.”

Heather Ryce first started as a teenager helping animals in her local rescue centre and is now part of a fundraising team.

She said: "It has been some of the most rewarding work I have ever been a part of, as well as allowing me to meet some of my now closest friends.

"When you can be overwhelmed with sorrow from the news or online content, involving animal abuse or mistreatment, it helps tremendously to even be a tiny piece of a wonderful cog of people trying to turn things around for domestic and wild animals.

"I am so grateful to be part of a team of fellow animal lovers who want to make the world a better place for us all.”

Meanwhile, volunteer Kirsten MacQuarrie said: "Through our friendly and informal fundraising group, I've met some of my closest friends, and it's such a treat to connect with like-minded animal lovers who care just as deeply as I do about making Scotland a safer, more supportive place for all creatures great and small.

“Through volunteering, I've challenged myself mentally and physically, vastly increased my confidence, enjoyed lots of laughs in great company, and most importantly raised much-needed funds for all animals. A warm welcome awaits when you sign up!”
