A successful Clydebank gymnastics club is set to be handed the keys to a popular council-run sports hall.

Dynamite Gymnastics Club is close to securing a 25-year lease of The HUB on Kilbowie Road as part of West Dunbartonshire Council’s (WDC) bid to close a £21 million budget gap.

The school – currently based on North Avenue – would move in on January 31, 2025, if the local authority’s IRED committee approve the £42,000 per annum deal at their meeting on Wednesday, February 7.

And the finance officers at WDC hope the partnership will bring some much-needed revenue to council accounts.

The report being submitted reads: “The Council will no longer incur resources in managing and maintaining the Hub…and will generate a revenue saving of approximately £131,000 per annum achieved via property and running costs.”

Dynamite was formed in 2004 by Ellena Devitt to provide gymnastics activities for children and young people.

The club is Gymmark Accredited and currently has around 400 members actively participating in classes every week after starting with just 15.

Its activities include general gymnastics classes from ages three years old upwards and gymnasts work towards the British Gymnastics award schemes along with competitive opportunities in tumbling, floor and vault, trampoline and double mini tramp.

This time last year, The Clydebank Post told how the thriving academy had 10 of its members picked for the Scottish Gymnastics National Tumble squad for 2023 out of the 28 spaces available.

And in November, the club was visited by Radio Clyde after raising more than £16,000 for their own club by running raffles, a showcase week, a fun night, a photoshoot, a competition and a merchandise sale – the highest in the west of Scotland.

Their current lease on North Avenue is due to expire in 2025, meaning the timing of The HUB availability would suit both parties.
