The new home of a local food bank will open to service users on Monday – and we got a sneak peek inside.

Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels are beginning a new era as they take up residence in the refurbished Napier Hall after taking up the lease on October 1 last year.

Food bank founder Maureen Cummings and her team have worked tirelessly to get the new look site up to scratch and transform the ageing hall into a modern and welcoming hub for the community.

Now, OKFP will throw open the newly painted doors and again provide the most vulnerable in the area with a means to stay warm, get their weekly shop and catch up with friends after a few weeks away whilst the charity moved from their former home on Station Road.

And Maureen explained although there were tears when leaving their previous premises, the new facility will benefit the area in more ways than one.

She said: “We were sad to be leaving the hub in Station Road but it’s also exciting to know that we have security for the next 10 years at least to develop our social inclusion activities including our Chatty Cafe.

“Change is a mixture of uncertainty and adventure, and we will embrace both with a positive outlook.”

The OKFP group have so far spent over £90,000 to modernise the hall received through a combination of grants, awards and fundraising.

During a tour by The Clydebank Post of the Napier Hall, Maureen highlighted the additional features the hub is now offering, such as meeting room space, office rooms and the main stage - which will host a variety of entertainment events over the next few months.

And she noted the opening hours of the free food pantry will be Monday to Friday 12-2 pm.
