AN URGENT message has been issued to families across Clydebank ahead of looming school strikes.

All secondary and primary schools as well as early learning and childcare centres (ELCCs) within schools will close from September 26 to September 28 as strike action gets underway.

It comes after a revised pay offer was rejected earlier this week.

Employees expected to be on strike include those working in catering, cleaning, pupil support, administration, and janitorial.

UNISON Scotland said that unless a significantly improved offer is received by 5pm on Wednesday, September 20 strikes will take place across twenty-four local authorities including West Dunbartonshire.

In light of this news, West Dunbartonshire Council issued important information for families to know during this period.

A small number of standalone ELCCs will remain open to children.

Which ELCCs won’t be closing?

  • Andrew B Cameron
  • Auchnacraig ELCC
  • Bellsmyre
  • Brucehill
  • Clydebank
  • Dalmonach
  • Dalmuir
  • Ferryfield
  • Lennox Faifley
  • Whitecrook

Families with youngsters who are entitled to free school meals will receive a direct payment to their bank account on Friday, September 22 to cover the closure.

A statement from WDC reads: “We are sorry for any disruption this strike may cause you as you make alternative arrangements for your children.

“Your children’s safety is our priority and while we share your frustrations, we can only open school buildings to pupils and young people when we are confident we have the key members of employees required to keep your children safe.

“If there is any change to the strike action we will update you and all schools and ELCCs will reopen on Friday, September 29, 2023.”
