A WOMAN pleaded with a sheriff to send her to custody after turning up to court intoxicated.

Gillian Friel attended a hearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court this week heavily under the influence.

She caused a disturbance after being asked to be quiet by a court police officer.

The 26-year-old, of Burnside Court, staggered to the dock where she didn't agree with the accuracy of the author of her social work report.

It was heard that she previously pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

During the incident on June 5 this year, she repeatedly shouted, swore and uttered threats of violence towards police officers.

A not-guilty plea was accepted by the Crown to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards cops on Scott Street, Clydebank, on the same date.

At the hearing, Stephen Maguire, defending, said: "She is not happy with the content or accuracy [in the social work report]. My instructions are simply to adjourn for the preparation of the reports previously requested.

"She is not seeking her liberty. She is struggling and requires to spend time in custody to deal with her issues."

Sheriff Lindsey Kooner deferred sentencing until August this year and remanded her into custody.

The deferment will allow for a restriction of liberty assessment to be carried out.
