Police have issued an urgent warning over a new scam that is targeting mobile phone users.
Argyll & West Dunbartonshire Policing Division say they are aware of a new scam which involves you receiving a phone call on either your landline or more frequently, your mobile phone.
The call claims to be someone from your mobile phone provider, with all of the known scam calls so far claiming to be O2.
The caller will offer people a 30 per cent discount on their account, and will claim to send them a text message with a 'one-time passcode', which they are then asked to read over to them.
This text message will appear to come from an official mobile phone provider number but if the passcode is read back, the scammers can access the person's mobile phone account and order new handsets on their account, charging this back to them.
A police spokesperson said: "We would advise you not to read over any one time passcodes sent in this way.
"If you have been the victim of this type of scam but have not lost any money, you can report this to Advice Direct Scotland at info@advice.scot or by phone to 0808 800 9060.
"If you have been financially harmed, please contact Police Scotland on 101 or through www.scotland.police.uk/contact-us."
