Glasgow MSP crowned winner for hard-work to blood cancer charity

A NORTH-WEST Glasgow MSP has been crowned a winner of a prestigious award for his "ground-breaking" work for a blood cancer charity.

Bill Kidd, MSP for Anniesland took the title of Political Supporter of the Year at the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards (ANSAs) 2023, which is awarded to a politician who has campaigned and championed the work of Anthony Nolan locally or nationally over the past 12 months.

He is a long-standing supporter of the charity in the Scottish Parliament and recently hosted a highly successful ‘Communities vs Blood Cancer’ drop-in at Holyrood, informing MSPs about the charity's work.

Additionally, Bill has championed the ground-breaking partnership between the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Anthony Nolan and has helped to significantly increase awareness of the stem cell register among MSPs.

Mr Kidd said: "My support for Anthony Nolan is long-standing and is because of the vital work they carry out on behalf of those affected by blood cancer and their families.

“I believe that we should all consider supporting Anthony Nolan because of the dedication and loyalty of all those involved in delivering the lifesaving work and their inspiring humanity and belief in working for all affected by devastating illness, regardless of their age, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. I thank them so much.”

The award winners were announced on June 14 at the Tower of London.

The winners joined guests including celebrities Kellie Shirley and social media star Vickaboo were celebrated for using their platforms to raise awareness of the charity’s work.

Henny Braund MBE, chief executive at Anthony Nolan, said: “All of our nominees are hugely deserving winners of these awards. By raising vital funds and much-needed awareness, we are curing blood cancer together. We can give families hope and give more people a future.”
