POLICE are cracking down on antisocial behaviour at Clyde Shopping Centre and the surrounding areas.

Officers said there has been a rise in antisocial behaviour (ASB) including buses being targeted by vandals in Chalmers Street.

The Post previously reported that passengers had to be evacuated from a bus in the area last week after rocks were thrown at it, smashing the window.

Cops have hit out at vandals for “putting lives at risk” as well as causing disruption to vital services that local residents depend on.

Police are working with West Dunbartonshire Council’s ASB team, Clyde Shopping Centre, First Bus, ScotRail, local schools, British Transport Police, and elected representatives to ensure a collective effort is made to tackle the issue and identify those responsible.

The partnership will also look at what diversionary activities can be considered to provide a sustainable improvement.

Morven Sutherland, Community Policing Inspector, said: “We have seen an unacceptable rise in ASB, and I am determined that we utilise all available resources at our disposal to ensure Clydebank remains a place where people feel safe.

“We have several options available to us, including sharing details of those persons identified with our partners at West Dunbartonshire Council, who can review housing tenancies.

“I encourage parents or guardians to reach out to their children and discuss the consequences of their choices or behaviour and the impact that those choices can have on the community.”
