A Helensburgh woman has spoken of her pride after her grandson became the Scottish, English, and British judo champion.

June McMurdo’s grandson Finley Whitelaw took up the sport at Pro Judo Scotland when he was five years old, attending his first competition at the age of eight.

Now 12-years-old, Finley has been part of Judo Scotland’s talent development squad for two years.

He added the English title to his collection last month in Devon, receiving his medal from Olympian and Commonwealth champion Ashley McKenzie.

Finley went on to win the British championship in Sheffield earlier this month.

June, who is the manager of The Ashton on West Princes Street, said: “The pro judo club are amazing as they have supported him through all his competitions, and I’m a super proud nana.”
