THE deaths of two men in police custody are to be investigated by a sheriff.

Declan Gallacher, 24, died at Clydebank police office days before Christmas on December 23, 2018.

David Berry passed away whilst he was within legal custody in Govan police office.

Both deaths are set to be probed at a Fatal Accident Inquiry at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

A preliminary hearing has been fixed for 9.30am on May 12, 2023.

Following Declan's death at the Montrose Street police station, hundreds of people paid tribute.

One person said: "You were always smiling mate and giving us laughs, remember our times in Mountblow you were always the loudest and funniest, glad I got to see you as a man three months ago. What a difference from that young boy.

"Rest easy brother taking to soon."

On Christmas Eve, 2018, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, which officers are treating as unexplained at this time.

"Enquiries are ongoing and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

"As is normal procedure in these circumstances, the incident will be reported to the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC)."
