A DRUNK man who kicked off at his wife at their former home in Clydebank asked to be let off scot-free.

Thomas Mark and his wife were visiting friends and had a few drinks on August 5 last year.

The woman decided later that evening to head home but Mark stayed for a while longer to continue drinking.

When the intoxicated 56-year-old did return to his former home on Valetta Place at almost 10pm he was extremely agitated and became very abusive towards his partner.

Fiscal depute Claire O’Hagan told the hearing that she asked Mark to calm down and said she would allow him into the property when he did.

However, he kicked the door, shouting at her to open it and stated he ‘was going to kill her’.

A nearby neighbour who was walking their dog heard the commotion and called the police.

When Mark appeared in the dock at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week he pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, kicking a door, demanding entry and uttering offensive remarks and threats of violence towards his wife.

His defence solicitor said: “It was going to be my primary submission that he should be admonished. He has no prior convictions and unfortunately had very significant deterioration on his mental and physical health. He advises me he suffers from COPD and auto-immune disease.

“I genuinely believe in this particular case it is worth an absolute discharge.”

Sheriff Christian Marney said: “I accept that you had no criminal record and that this episode was out of character, but nonetheless it was a serious matter. ”

Mark, of Cartside Street, Glasgow, was admonished.
